Gentofte Municipality conducted a full-scale deployment of their new removable flood-protection system, the NoFloods EasyWall (formerly known as BoxWall), to shield Skovshoved Harbor and the surrounding urban area from future high-water events and storm surges.
The municipality chose EasyWall as their preferred flood defense solution after a thorough evaluation and hands-on testing of competing BoxWall concepts and other L-shaped barriers.
What makes the EasyWall barrier stand out is its HydroSeal and HydroFoam technologies that reduce seepage (even under tough conditions) and improve surface grip to keep the barrier stable.
Approximately 1,000 meters of the barrier were deployed in just three hours, with removal taking roughly the same amount of time. The emergency team praised the system’s speed, intuitive handling and overall ease of use.
Rising Waters, Rising Urgency
Skovshoved Harbor is a key focus area in Gentofte’s climate adaptation programme due to rising water levels and increasing storm surge risks, prompting the municipality to initiate a long-term coastal-protection strategy based on detailed mapping and simulation of vulnerable coastal zones.
While permanent solutions are being designed, temporary and rapidly deployable flood-protection systems like the EasyWall, which is part of the NoFloods Barriers, provide essential immediate protection.
The system strengthens the resilience of Skovshoved Harbor and the surrounding town area, supporting the municipality’s high-water protection initiatives as part of a broader flood-defense framework that includes partners like Oranje Beton.
As Gentofte continues implementing its climate-robustness plan, temporary storm-surge systems like the EasyWall and NoFloods Tube Barriers (known in Denmark as “watertubes”), ensure the community remains protected until permanent infrastructure is established.
